Joey Childs started the drive in San Jose at age 8, and volunteers still run all of it.
How It Started.
It began in 2012 as a school project: come up with an idea that helps your community. Joey Childs chose a toy drive, made flyers with crayons and markers, and walked them door to door in his neighborhood.
The first collection was a few dozen toys. He ran it again the next December, and it has run every December since.
How It Grew.
Today companies, schools, faith communities, scout troops, and neighborhood groups run drives across the Bay Area. Some of those companies are in the Fortune 500.
Regional ambassadors now run drives as far away as Monterey and Santa Barbara, and those toys come to San Jose for Bay Area children.

Our Team.
Joey’s Toy Drive has no paid staff. The people who organize the drive, sort the toys, work with partners, and coordinate the trucks do it outside their jobs and schoolwork.
